Beau was sitting in Wine Blogging 101 attempting to gather pearls of wisdom from the learned panelists while random audio from a concurrent session kept inserting itself into the conversation. Gotta love technology.

Which Came First: Plavac or Zinfandel?
For at least two decards, it was thought that Plavac Mali was the ancestor, or Croatian counterpart of Zinfandel. Coincidentally, it is thought that Zinfandel arrived in California around 1852. And when, between 1890 and 1900 most of northern California’s vineyards were destroyed by phylloxera, Zinfandel was among the survivors.

At the tasting we met a delightful couple, Don and Judy Phelps, owners of “Hard Row to Hoe” Vineyards. They poured a refreshing Sangiovese Dry Rosé. And Judy told me the story behind the name. Seems that back in the late 1930s, there was a brothel located at Point Lovely.
