Along with Moët and Claret, Meritage is one of the most mispronounced wine words in America. Think “heritage” when saying it as that is one of the roots of the word.

When I visited California last Fall, it seemed that every winery had their own version of this Bordeaux-style blend. Some of them were outstanding, others were in serious need of aging, and others just shouldn’t have been. However, it is a great concept that definitely bears watching.
