Plume Bleue Grenache SyrahPlume Bleue Vin de Pays d’Oc is a 50/50 Grenache Syrah blend made by a very good winemaker. This big fruity wine has lots of plum, cherry and dark berry flavors with just enough chewy tannins to balance it out. It has a mildly smoky flavor.

This stuff just begs for some grilled lamb or pork. Chilled, it could be served with a nice summer salad. Best of all? You should be able to find it for under $10. Look for the 2005 if you can find it.

  • Random request for a review--

I was in Target the other day buying moving supplies, and I happened to stop by a bin they had labeled "12 wines for less than $12" or something like that. Figuring that I'd need some wine after trucking back and forth to the storage unit all day, I bought a couple--thanks to the marketing wizards, mainly because I thought the labels were nifty (and hey, the price wasn't bad). I haven't cracked the white yet, but I've enjoyed a Chilean Cabernet Franc/Carmenère blend (84/16) called "(oops)", apparently after the fact that Chilean Carmenère plantings were long assumed to be Merlot until the 1990s. I figure if it's at Target in the $12 bin, it should be easy enough for all your readership to find! ;)

  • Thanks for the review, Chuck. I will have to give that a try. After filling up my gas tank and buying a bag of dog food set me back $70, I need too find all of the bargains that I can.
  • We and our guests opened the "screw top" Plume Bleue (05) wine and really liked it. Can't remember where we bought it or would go back for more.
