Another Wine Blog is one of five finalists among nearly 50 nominees for Best Writing on a Wine Blog in the 2011 Wine Blogger Awards.

UPDATE: Check out our Press Release.

Bonny Doon’s Randall Grahm at “Been Doon So Long,” Alder Yarrow’s Vinography; RJ on Wine and Good Grape round out the nominees for Best Writing on a Wine Blog.

“About f-ing time, you a…holes,” says Joe Power, who, in his own acerbic way, posts an annual diatribe imploring the Awards’ committee to embrace transparency with regards to the process.

And the Process?  Each year the organizers invite nominations. Secret judges whittle nominees down to 5 or 6 finalists, then to be voted on by the general public. Public votes are then combined with secret judges’ scores to determine eventual winners which are announced at the annual Wine Bloggers’ Conference, this year to be held in Charlottesville, Virginia, July 22-26.

The awards were originally devised by PR man Tom Wark, as an effort to drive more traffic to his blog, Fermentation.  After cries of cronyism he “transferred” responsibility for the awards’ process to Conference organizers, thus allowing his own blog to be nominated and potentially win an award.

Never ask for a quote from someone when they have been drinking…you might get one!

Whoa there! Let’s get the history right! Tom Wark didn’t create the Awards to generate traffic—he clearly didn’t need to; he’s done more than any other single individual to promote wine blogging and he filled a niche no one else was addressing.
And then there’s another misstep in what you said: Tom literally gave the Awards away with no nefarious intention! Let’s salute Tom for what he’s done and not ding him for things that aren’t even accurate! Any awards process is complicated…but that’s a whole other story.

That would be one way of looking at it.

    Best of luck guys!!!

Same to you, Pamela! I can’t think of many sites more deserving than yours!

One hallmark of “Best Writing” is backing statements of fact with, well, facts.  The below excerpted statement doesn’t even toe the line of slander it dances on top of it.  In fact, it’s not even well written enough to even constitute reasonable Op Ed.

At least look up legal terms prior to discussing then sets site run by a lawyer. Kissing butt is one thing, showing your own is quite another. Good luck with the awards

Ah, one of our fellow finalists dropping by to wish us well. Awesome sportsmanship! Good Luck to you as well, Jeff!

  • Christopherwelling

At least look up legal terms before deliberating them on a site run by a barrister. Kissing butt is one thing, showing your own is reasonably another. Good luck with the awards.
