Houston’s TUTS to Host Vine and Dine Benefit Nov. 24

Houston’s Theater Under the Stars will host its annual Vine and Dine Benefit dinner at REEF on Sunday, November 24, 2013.

TUTSLogocropNow in its third year, Vine and Dine pairs the culinary creations of Houston’s top chefs with local vintners and their Napa Valley wines. La Colombe D’Or hosted last year’s event and raised nearly $100,000. This year two-time James Beard Award Nominee and Reef Chef/Owner Bryan Caswell and his James Beard buddies promise to create a culinary symphony inspired by the music and performers of Theatre Under the Stars.

From its humble 1968 beginnings in Hermann Park’s Miller Outdoor Theatre TUTS has become a leader in producing both national tours and new Broadway productions. Now in its 45th year, TUTS continues to thrive in Houston’s Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and make its artistic impact felt across the country.

The 2013/2014 TUTS’ Subscription Season will include Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Elf, Evita, The Little Mermaid, The Wizard of Oz and a limited engagement of We Will Rock You, featuring the greatest hits of the legendary British rock group Queen. For spicier fare, TUTS Underground will include Lizzie, a rock music about the ax-wielding Miss Borden; 50 Shades! a Musical Parody of 50 Shades of Grey; and the Texas premier of Hands of a Hardbody, a musical with blues, gospel, country and honky-tonk music.

Proceeds from Vine and Dine benefit TUTS’ Education programs including Humprheys School of Musical Theatre, a technique-driven school that teaches singing, acting and dancing to the next generation of musical theatre stars, as well as The River, which is an all-inclusive arts education program for people of all abilities and skill levels.

“We also reach out into the community through various initiatives including HISD, the YMCA, several local hospitals, and many other community-focused organizations,” says TUTS’ Sam Byrd. In addition, TUTS hosts the Tommy Tune Awards, named for the nine-time Tony Award winner and former Houstonian.

Fashioned after the Tony Awards, The Tommy Tune Awards spotlight the best and brightest of the local high school musical theatre students.

It’s not just dinner! “In addition to the delicious meals and mouthwatering wines, we will have a silent auction and one live auction item,” says Byrd.

This exclusive event has sold out the past two years, so would-be patrons are encouraged to purchase their tickets early.

Tickets start at $500 and can be purchased by contacting Ashly Alberto at 713-558-2656 or via email Ashly@TUTS.com.
